Sgt Robert Bales named as Afghanistan massacre suspect.

The Afghan civilian massacre soldier accused of killing 16 civilians named as Staff Sgt Robert Bales.

The US Army said that he has flown from Kuwait to a military detention centre in Fort Leavenworth, Kansas, and will be held in solitary confinement pending charges. Sgt Bales who, while serving in Iraq, had been injured twice and he had also witnessed his friend's leg being blown off the day before the killings.

In the wake of Sunday's rampage the Taliban have called off peace talks after the close range killings of men, women and children. In a bid to reduce civilian deaths, Afghan President Hamid Karzai has called on the US to pull back it's troops from village areas to make way for Afghan security forces in an angry reaction to the killings.

Sgt Bales, the only known suspect, could face charges that carry a possible death penalty although a trial could take years despite Afghan demands for swift and decisive justice.

Hillsborough Thatcher told 'drunk fans' caused disaster

Former PM Margaret Thatcher was told a senior Merseyside police officer blamed "drunken Liverpool fans" for causing the Hillsborough disaster, confidential government papers have revealed.

The BBC has seen leaked documents about Britain's worst sporting tragedy.

Ninety-six football fans died after a crush on overcrowded terraces at an FA Cup Semi Final in April 1989.

US soldier suspect flown to Kuwait

The US soldier has been flown to Kuwait, he is accused of killing 16 civilians in Afghanistan, the unnamed staff sergeant faces legal proceedings which will be conducted in another country and the move coincides with the visit from Leon Panetta, US Defence Secretary.

An incident involving a vehicle marred his arrival, a stolen pick-up truck was driven at high speed onto the runway near Mr Panetta's plane at British base in Helmand province, Camp Bastion. He has since left the province for the capital, Kabul.

The unnamed staff sergeant left his base before dawn on Sunday and the Afghan parliament have demanded he put on trial in their country.

If found guilty, he could face the death penalty, Mr Panetta has said and The Taliban have promised revenge attacks.

Repatriation preparations for Swiss bus crash.

Preparations are being made by Belgian authorities to fly the bodies of 22 children and six adults home who were killed in a coach crash in Switzerland on Tuesday, Two C-130 Hercules military planes are on standby.

The coach struck a wall head-on in a tunnel on Tuesday, there were 52 peopleon board. Many victims relatives are still unsure about the fate of their children after they were flown to Switzerland. Some children were critically injured in the late night accident near Sierre, Valais in southern Belgium.

A Christian group hired three buses that carried the 12 year old children, the other two buses reached Belgium safely.

The children were from the Stekske primary school in Lommel and from St Lambertus in Heverlee. Most of the victims are Belgian, seven Dutch children died,and three Dutch, one Pole and one German were injured.

None of the parents know what happened exactly and if their child has been affected.

Olivier Elsig, a Swiss prosecutor, said the bus was nearly new and there was no indication that the bus was speeding. Technical failure, human error or the driver suffered a health problem are being considered as possible causes.

Rebekah Woods arrested in phone hacking probe.

Former Chief Excecutive of News International Rebekah Woods and her husband Charlie Woods have been arrested in the latest stage of the phone hacking inquiry.

Detectives investigating phone-hacking against journalists have arrested Six people in London, Oxfordshire, Hampshire and Hertfordshire.

One woman and five men were arrested by Police on suspicion of conspiracy to pervert the course of justice.

Operation Weeting phone-hacking inquiry Officers are searching connected addresses to the arrests.

A 48-year-old man from east London, a 46-year-old man from west London, a 38-year-old man from Hertfordshire, a 39-year-old man from Hampshire, a 49-year-old man and 43-year-old woman, both from Oxfordshire were arrested and are being interviewed at police stations in Buckinghamshire, Oxfordshire and London.

Obama March madness bracket.

President Obama is getting in on the March Madness action through the campaign website with his own version of the NCAA tournament pool, President Obama is inviting fans to fill out a bracket to see if they can beat his predictions.

The President, who is a longtime college basketball fan, launched the "Obama Bracket Challenge” inviting supporters to join him in this year’s March Madness, entrants in the challenge are invited to make a donation to the campaign towards the November big match-up.

It is thought when British Prime Minister David Cameron arrives in the US on Tuesday Obama will take him for the “First Four” matchup between Mississippi Valley State and Western Kentucky at Dayton, Ohio.

Obama promises bragging rights to the winners by posting their names on his site if they out-pick him.

US On Alert For Afghan Reprisals.

After a soldier went on a rampage in villages near a base in Kandaha, US officials warned of reprisals, 9 children were among those killed.

President Obama called Afghan counterpart Hamid Karzai to express condolences, but Mr Karzai has said the massacre is "unforgivable".

Leon Panetta, US Defense Secretary, has launched a full investigation while Taliban militants has vowed to avenge the deaths.

The soldier left his base at around 03:00 Sunday In the villages of Alkozai and Najeeban and reportedly broke into three homes.

11 people were found shot dead at one home in Najeeban about 500m from the base, some of the dead were set alight and it is believed that three of the child victims were killed by a single shot to the head.

After returning to base it is believed the soldier turned himself in to the US military, his motives are unclear and there is speculation that he may have been drunk or suffered a mental breakdown.

The 38 years old father of two has been detained in Kandahar and the military are treating five wounded.

Game Change Twitter Reactions.

After Saturday night's premier of the film "Game Change" reactions were sparked from viewers and politicans. The book based film, is based around the 2008 presidential election. GOP presidential candidate Sen. John McCain, is played by Ed Harris, along with his vice presidential runner Sarah Palin is acted by Julianne Moore.

After airing publicly on Saturday night, Palin dismissed the HBO film as unimportant.
Palin said her "family has the right priorities and knows what really matters," In an
email to ABC News. President Barack Obama also recieved a swipe for having
entertainment industry supporters.

The behind-the-scenes drama of the 2008 campaign made-for-tv movie won't be watched
by either Palin and McCain which looks behind-the-scenes of the campaign in 2008.

The time change for Daylight Savings Time (DST Eastern Time) 2012 started at 2 a.m
this morning, Sunday 11/03/12.

Daylight Saving Time began for Florida this morning, The rest of the United States also turned their clocks forward except Hawaii and Arizona as they do not practice Daylight Saving Time. An hour was lost when the clocks were put forward one hour.

Daylight-saving time is part of a federal law, the Standard Time Act, which
includes a daylight-saving measure that essentially moves an hour of daylight
from the morning to the evening.

Daylight-saving time started as a way to save energy, especially during
the two World Wars.
