Current time DST in the Eastern Time zone.

"Fall Back Spring Forward."

The time change for Daylight Savings Time (DST Eastern Time) 2012 started at 2 a.m
this morning, Sunday 11/03/12.

"So when did daylight savings time begin?"

Daylight Saving Time began for Florida this morning, The rest of the United States also turned their clocks forward except Hawaii and Arizona as they do not practice Daylight Saving Time. An hour was lost when the clocks were put forward one hour.

Daylight-saving time is part of a federal law, the Standard Time Act, which
includes a daylight-saving measure that essentially moves an hour of daylight
from the morning to the evening.

Daylight-saving time started as a way to save energy, especially during
the two World Wars.
